The Putnam County Court Calendar
The Circuit Court Clerk docket index is the main calendar shelf for Putnam County. It separates dated PDF dockets for Circuit and General Sessions civil, criminal, traffic, and domestic work. Circuit civil motion dates are also published in judge-specific sheets. Each file is a snapshot for a selected session, not a standing promise that every listed matter will proceed. The PDF header should match the court, date, time, and assigned judge before a reader relies on a row.
Putnam County General Sessions follows useful weekly patterns. The clerk FAQ says criminal sessions are commonly held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while civil sessions are commonly Tuesday and Thursday. Those patterns help locate the right docket. They do not replace the current PDF or a clerk confirmation. Chancery, Juvenile, Probate, municipal, appellate, and federal settings have separate keepers and may never enter the county PDF index.
Putnam Calendar Posting Window
Most new county dockets are posted only one day before court, according to the clerk FAQ. A missing file several days in advance may therefore reflect timing, not cancellation. Check the index again near the setting. If the Putnam County calendar is still absent, use TnCIS and contact the correct clerk instead of assuming the hearing disappeared.
The official docket page shows the actual set of files available at that moment. Its screen view is documented in the manifest image below. It makes the division among Putnam County docket types easier to see.
The index is best read by court and date. Save or print the relevant case number because a later upload may replace the most useful entry point.
Note: No official Putnam source reviewed promises calendar subscriptions, text alerts, or automatic email reminders.
How to Find Your Court Date
Start with the court named on the notice, citation, pleading, or prior order. Putnam County has different custodians for different calendars. Jennifer Wilkerson's Circuit Court Clerk handles Circuit and General Sessions calendar questions, while Brandi Ashburn's Clerk and Master handles Chancery. A city citation belongs with its municipal clerk. Counsel or a party's attorney may also have the operative scheduling order, but the court record and clerk are the sources to confirm.
- Check the county's dated PDF docket index and open the file for the right court and date.
- Search Putnam TnCIS Web Inquiry by party or case number, then choose the supported court and case type.
- Call the Circuit Court Clerk at 931-528-1508, visit the clerk counter, or email recordsclerk@putnamcountytn.gov with the name, case number, and year.
- For Chancery, call the Clerk and Master at 931-526-6321. For city court, contact that municipal clerk.
- Ask at the counter about posted daily calendars or a public terminal. Neither a public-terminal service nor a printed daily calendar was confirmed online, so verify availability first.
- If needed, request inspection or a copy by email, mail, phone, fax where published, or under the Putnam public-record policy.
An appeal requires the Tennessee Public Case History search. Federal hearings require PACER or the appropriate Middle District calendar. These systems use different case numbers. They should not be treated as backup views of the county calendar.
Putnam Judge Motion Calendars
Circuit civil motion dates are judge-specific. The Putnam County clerk published separate 2026 motion-date PDFs for Judge William Ridley and Judge Caroline Knight. The split matters. Finding a date on one judge's sheet does not place a case on the other calendar. The selected civil docket should identify the assigned judge, hearing time, case number, parties, attorneys, category, and hearing purpose.
The 13th Judicial District local rules add a key duty: cases are set on docket-setting day whether or not attorneys attend, and attorneys must determine the date. Judges supply chambers and docket-setting dates through the clerks. A Putnam County case should be set in the county where it was filed. Current clerk publications control over an old schedule appendix.
Calendar check: Match the assigned judge in the case record to the judge named in the motion-date sheet and current dated docket.
Reading a Court Setting
A setting line answers when and why a case is scheduled. It does not decide the case. Putnam County PDF rows can also carry a generated timestamp, filing date, status, jury indicator, or cross-reference. Read the header first and the row second.
| Date | The selected hearing or session date, distinct from the filing or violation date. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed session or hearing time. Confirm whether it is a docket call or an individual time. |
| Courtroom | The room or court location shown in the current notice or PDF. Call if the online row omits it. |
| Judge | The assigned or presiding judge identified in the docket header. |
| Setting Type | Motion, pretrial, trial, arraignment, traffic, status, grand-jury return, or another procedural event. |
| Case Number | A court-specific identifier such as 71CC1-YYYY-CV-NNN or 71GS1-YYYY-TR-NNN. |
Party and attorney names can appear in a public PDF. Use them only to distinguish the intended case. A displayed setting is not proof of guilt, liability, or final judgment.
Putnam Calendar Terms Decoded
Local wording tells the reader what kind of event to confirm. It should not be expanded into an outcome the docket does not state.
- To be set per DC
- The civil sample indicates that a date remains to be set through the court, court coordinator, or clerk.
- Case continued
- The setting moved. Find the new date rather than treating the case as dismissed.
- Pretrial
- A setting before trial. It is not the trial itself.
- Reopen
- The matter has returned to active court work; obtain the current order and next setting.
- Consolidated with
- The row points to another case number. Search and compare both files.
Note: A status label should be checked against the filed order when the legal result matters.
Resets, Continuances, and Cancellations
A Putnam County continuance needs leave of court under the 13th Judicial District local rules. Agreement between parties alone does not change the court calendar. A motion to continue is the stated mechanism. Until the judge grants relief and a new date is entered, the existing setting should be treated as active.
When a row says “case continued,” locate the new setting in TnCIS, the next dated PDF, or the clerk's record. A case may also move due to a holiday, court order, judicial conference, or special schedule. Confirm changes with the proper clerk. Do not rely solely on an old download, a payment page, or a third-party calendar.
Putnam Municipal Calendar Split
Municipal dates are separate from Putnam County Circuit and General Sessions PDFs. The Cookeville City Court states that it meets twice each month on Tuesday evenings at 5:00 p.m. at 1019 Neal Street. The Monterey court page lists third-Monday sessions at 5:30 p.m. and moves court to the third Tuesday when Monday is a holiday.
The Monterey source also offers “View Docket” links for listed dates. Its manifest image records that monthly layout.
Algood and Baxter did not expose confirmed public calendar searches in the review. Their city clerks are the first contact. A county traffic PDF cannot be presumed to contain a city ordinance or city ticket case.
Putnam Federal Calendar Route
Federal civil, criminal, and bankruptcy settings for the Cookeville division live outside Putnam County systems. PACER and official federal court calendars supply those records. The Tennessee Middle District Bankruptcy Court's 9013 availability calendar provides judge and court-location filters rather than county docket PDF categories.
The captured bankruptcy calendar shows the separate federal filter design.
Use the federal case number and correct district or bankruptcy court. The county clerk cannot confirm or certify a federal hearing date.
What To Do If You Miss a Setting
Contact the clerk for the court that owns the case at once. Give the case number, name, year, and missed date. Also contact counsel if represented. Ask what the court record now shows and whether an order, warrant, rescheduled date, or other action was entered. The clerk can report the record but cannot give legal advice.
Missed a setting? A missed Putnam County court date can carry serious case-specific consequences.
Call the correct clerk and your attorney promptly, and do not assume that paying online or finding no new PDF resolves the matter.
Seek advice from a licensed Tennessee attorney before taking a step that could affect a warrant, bond, judgment, or right to be heard.
If the event was a municipal setting, contact that city clerk. For Chancery, contact the Clerk and Master. Appellate and federal matters require their own clerks. Keep a record of whom you called and the confirmed next date.
